Hillingdon is a part of the Borough Council of Hillingdon, located 14.2 miles (22.8 kilometers) west of Charing Cross. The market town of Uxbridge was part of this ancient parish in Middlesex. The civil parish experienced a rapid, planned rise in population and housing throughout the 1920s and was absorbed by the Uxbridge Urban District in 1929.

As the current Hillingdon Eastward for voting delegates to Hillingdon London Borough Council, much of Hillingdon has a lasting, albeit limited, administrative effect. The ward had a population of 12,403 people in November 2010.

At the summit of Hillingdon Hill, near the intersection with Royal Lane, is the church of St John the Baptist. It was constructed in 1629 to replace an earlier structure that had become dangerous. In 1846, the architect George Gilbert Scott (father of George Gilbert Scott Junior) was commissioned to create an addition to the church, as the congregation had grown too large. The Fassnidge builders from Uxbridge completed this expansion between 1847 and 1848.

Sir Charles Mills purchased separate nearby sites in Vine Lane and built Hillingdon Court as his family home in 1858. Both[which?] buildings were demolished, and the plots were united to create the new property. Until Charles Mills, 2nd Baron Hillingdon, died in 1919, the mansion remained in the Mills family. The local government purchased part of the land, while the estate was purchased by the Roman Catholic Order of the Sacred Heart and converted into a nursing facility in 1920.

Hillingdon Court Park, Hillingdon Park, and the Church of St John the Baptist are all famous sights.
